MYTH & REALITY

We usually think of creativity as an external force that we do not control, or as an artistic talent that we do not possess. We generate ideas every day. If we understand the structure of how we generate those ideas, we can train ourselves to generate them in greater quality and quantity, and solve problems in a much more effective and efficient way. The reality is that creativity is a habit that can be learned using very simple tools.

This training will show you what makes us all creative and what simple changes in our creative life can have the greatest effect. The training delves into the key characteristics of everyday creative output. It identifies the obstacles to effective creative training and breaks down idea generation - Ideation - into simple, understandable steps.

You will be guided through fun creative challenges that will allow you to see your behavior within the creative process in a practical way, so that you can generate ideas in greater quantity and quality.

STRUCTURE

This training is a workshop, not a course to sit back, relax and merely watch. It is a practical, dynamic and active training. You are challenged to put it into practice to really learn what is demonstrated. You are asked to complete the creative challenges, and to take the time to actually learn the point of each challenge. The challenges are designed to challenge you, to stimulate your thinking, but also to be fun, so do your best and you will see the best results. Remember that there are no bad ideas here. All challenges are designed to draw out your interpretation of the challenge. You will probably laugh at many of them, and that's a good sign.

MATERIALS

Here is a list of the things you will need to get the most out of this workshop:
  • Paper and writing tools,
  • Timer or Stopwatch,
  • Random arts and crafts materials, such as play dough, pipe cleaners, cardboard, clothespins, whatever you have on hand will work..
  • Random office supplies, such as paper clips, rubber bands, fasteners, funny bugs, again, whatever you have on hand will do..

We will be doing the challenges as needed throughout the training, you can find all the challenges presented, and more, in a document that will be provided at the end of the workshop. Remember that we learn more by doing than just seeing or hearing, and creativity is an act of discipline, so take advantage of opportunities to get your hands dirty, and get to work: Have fun and learn! This will help you get the most out of this creative training.
